     
Vista Invitational Field Tournament
Last Updated: December 3, 2006 Ahhhh Vista. That's the only thing that the upperclassemen talked about when I first joined the band as a freshmen. Poway's breakthrough came when the Emerald Brigade took the Sweeps at the Vista Tournament in 2004. I remember when you could say the word "Vista" and outbursts of exitement, reminiscing, and memories would explode out off any sophmore, junior, or senior standing by. So just like last year, we put our best foot forward (left, to be exact!) this year to reclaim our title!
The day started off with a marching rehearsal from 9 AM to 2 PM with a lunch break from 11 to 12. Later that evening, our call time was at 4 PM. We drove quickly to Vista High School where we dressed into uniform, enjoyed quality sectional time, and rehearsed in warm-up arcs. We performed at 7:30 and attended the awards caremony at 9:00.
That night we made two special changes to our show. The first one was the execution of a "pre-show-show." As we marching onto the field, the drumline played "boom-boom-chick-rest" 4 times, and then rested for 2 measures. After the emsemble was completely in place, the drumline stopped playing. The goal was to get the audience into the show and allow them to start clapping for us! The second addition was a random rock pose put in at the end of the show. We did a Queen style pose that night, just one count after our final note. Both of these changes hopefully added to our general effect score for the evening.
The evening was very fun except that the bus ride home was delayed due to one of the buses inability to start because of a dead battery. On a side note, the clarinets were the Section-Of-The-Week for the tournament so that was a nice thing. Hope you enjoy the pictures!(:
And now for the first time ever, I have all of the exact results of the tournament! Please note, Vista performed last in "exhibition" and their scores did not affect the awards. Here were the results:
