Rochambeaux-By: Brian S. Mason
Notes: This is the new percussion music for the 2007 Winter Line show! I believe it is a synthesised recording. Please come see us at our live performances. Enjoy!
Show Progress-March 3rd
Notes: A recording of our first competiton at Artesia HS. We only played half of the full show. The recorder was inside the pocket of my vibraphone so excuse the sound inadequecies...
Show Progress-March 29th
Notes: A rehearsal recording midway into the season...
Show Progress-April 26th
Notes: A recording of our last rehearsal before championships. It was probably our best run-through ever!
Poway Festival 2007Notes: The Poway Festival took place on Wednesday, April 4th and Thursday, April 5th. All of these recording were done by our very own beloved band director, Mr. Karl Fitch! This means that it is OK to save the recordings and savor the music. Although the Symphony Orchestra played on the first day, I put them last because they were SO GOOD! Make sure to listen to them as well as your own band. :)

Wind Ensemble 2007 Music
Professional Recordings from jwpepper.com
Metroplex-By: Robert Sheldon
Notes: "A dazzling view of the sites and sounds of a dynamic city. Opening is a vision of the tall buildings and concrete canyons of the New York skyline, followed by an urban jazz scene in a club in Harlem. The close is a wild taxi ride through the heavy traffic of this fascinating city." This song is the favorite of most in the band and will most likely be in our concert line-up permanently.
Contre Qui, Rose-By: Morten Lauridsen, H. Robert Reynolds
Notes: "Originally from the pen of renowned choral composer Morten Lauridsen, this warm and dignified setting by H. Robert Reynolds works particularly well for concert bands. Phrasing is of the utmost importance to fully reflect the beautiful harmonies. The eloquence of the piece is stunningly gorgeous from the first note to the last. Breathtaking!" This song is our slow piece and will most likely be in our concert line-up permanently.
Motion-By: Brian Balmages
Notes: "Embark on a thrilling ride through different stages of motion! The sections each have a "motion" theme, including: Perpetual Motion, Locomotion and Commotion. The final fugal section constantly builds and transforms as the work moves toward a fierce conclusion. Powerful!"
Confession-By: J. Eric Schmidt
Notes: "This remarkable composition opens with a dark and menacing mood, sure to quickly attract the listener's attention. From there the mood changes to a more martial feeling of energy and drive before closing on a quiet and hauntingly beautiful note. Beautifully orchestrated, it provides a welcome addition to concert programs."
Mother Earth-By: David Maslanka
Notes: "A truly unique concert opener, this dark, intense fanfare is not for the faint of heart. It is in 3/4, but conducted in a brisk one, making it a challenging work for every player in the band. With each passing measure the audience will be riveted to every note, and will want to hear more once the piece comes to an exhilarating climax!" My personal favorite to play.
Winter Band Concert Recordings
Sound clips from Poway's annual holiday concert
Russian Christmas Music-By: Alfred Reed
Notes: Please try to hear past the dominant woodwind voices. The recorder was sitting next to me in clarinet land for the whole performance.
The Directorate-By: John Philip Sousa
Notes: This recording of the parade march is not even close to our best musically. Please consider that we hadn't practiced the march in over a month, and that half of the ensemble hadn't played it in over 3 months!
We Will Rock You-By: Queen, PHS Emerald Brigade
Notes: Our saxophone soloist is Zack Harju. Sorry that I missed Mr. Cook's full announcement. Also, listen for Mr. Cook's hint of his trumpeter's background..."the most important instrument in the band"...
Silent Night-By: Franz Gruber, Arranged By: Sammy Nestico
Notes: Both Poway and Twin Peaks students played this song. Ignore intonation please!
A Holiday Sing-Along-Arranged By: John Moss
Notes: Both Poway and Twin Peaks students played this song. Ignore tempo please!
Percussion 4th Movement-By: Queen, PHS Pit and drumline
Notes: This was recorded during the percussion section's outdoor performance of the field show. Keep in mind that our hardworking pit section managed to play their extreamely tough music in pitch darkness, having not played the show in a month, and with camera flashes going off every few seconds. Please ignore any minor errors you critic, you!!!
Christmas Highlands Medley/How the Grinch Stole Christmas-By: ?????, TPMS combined bands
Notes: Sorry for the crudity of this recording. I was sitting in the back of the gym with a few whispers circling around me. You will hear two student narrators before each song. The TPMS students did an excellent job.
Live Recordings
Performance at Mt. Carmel-Artist: The Emerald Brigade
Notes:
-This is an actual recording of our performance at Mt. Carmel! The recorder was positioned front and center so there is a little bit more front ensemble sound. Unfortunately, you will also hear another band in the background that was performing close by.
-For the band students, there are some problems in the music that you should listen for. The numbers in the parentheses are the exact second of the recording that I am referring to. Also, please note that these are my opinions and not official. Important questions should be asked to our section leaders or to the directors.
-2nd Movement: Brass rushing the half-eight-eight (2:22). Not enough clarity in trumpet part (2:40). Bad note, out of tune (3:03).
-3rd Movement: Timing and intonation issues at beginning (4:20-30). Entire impact point out-of-time, attacks are not solid or together (5:05-15). Low brass sticking out at big chord, need more upper voices (5:27). Faltering crescendo, bad release (5:36).
-4th Movement: Rushing (6:38). Lack of clarity in melody, no accents (6:38). Pit rushing (7:02). Weak attack (7:06). Brass rushing, must give full value to half note (7:45, 8:02). Trumpets, individuals sticking out (8:29). Bad release, not enough crescendo (8:33). Individuals popping out (9:08). Too many low voices at the end (9:14).
-Do you agree with my advice? Did I get it wrong or right? Please email me at macgyver@pacbell.net and tell me what you think!

Bohemian Polka-Artist: "Weird Al" Yankovic
Notes: In this song, Weird Al uses all the lyrics to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and puts them to different music! Listen for the clarinet and tuba features in the song. Reduced sound quality. Don't flame Weird Al 'cause I will have to hurt you if you do. Please do not save either.
