Mission Hills MBOS Tournament Last Updated: November 15, 2006
On Saturday, November 4, we competed at the first ever Mission Hills MBOS tournament! We actually performed our show twice, once at 3 PM for the prelimenary rounds and again later at 8 PM for the final event judging. The time of our second performance was drawn at random and was not announced until after the prelims award ceremony at 6 PM. The final awards ceremony was held at 9:30 PM.
What made this tournament special was that it was Mission Hills' first year hosting a competition. They also instituted a different method of judging called MBOS or Marching Band Open Series. This meant that all bands were placed into one category instead of in separate divisions for judging (in the finals only). Plus, there were music and marching judges actually standing on the field and no Sweepstakes awards! As a result "1st place" did not really mean "2nd place" and that "11th place" was stll dead last! (A little more band humor!)
As far as Poway's performance there, we all thought that we did extremely well in both performances. All of the students and directors were pleased and had a really great time that day. That's the biggest reward of this whole organization..or is it? I took plenty of pictures too so enjoy!
Below are the results. First are the "overall best" awards and then the top three in the open series:
Hi-light text to reveal! High Music Award: Etiwanda High Visual Award: Etiwanda High Effect Award: Etiwanda
The MBOS results were as follows: 1st Place: Etiwanda 90.3 points 2nd Place: Poway 87.3 points 3rd Place: Mt. Carmel 85.9 points
