4th of July Parade

Last Updated: August 15, 2006

Ahhh..the 4th of July. Fireworks. Summer. Freedom. That's what you might have thought of but for the band students, this day brings the exitement of marching in the annual parade in Rancho Bernardo. It was very hot that day and it didn't help that we had to get there 3 hours early either. It was worth it though, because we got to see our friends in the middle of the summer as well as meet the incoming marching band freshmen.

The actual parade route took an estimated 30 minutes to complete. 20 minutes of that however, was waiting for the people in front of us to continue down the street. The parade made a square around an entire block, majority of the spectators being on the last side of the square. It was here that we played our fight song repeatedly for the larger crowds and television cameras.

As I said before, we had 3 hours of down time before our turn in the parade which gave me plenty of time to take pictures! While there I also met the new official band photographer who I saw taking some shots during the parade. Like many times before, I couldn't take any pictures of the actual event because I was IN the parade! Sorry. However, please note the beautiful new emerald green flags that the color guard are waving here. They really add to the look of the Emerald Brigade.
