Last Updated: December 21, 2006 So really, it's been over a month since Arcadia and I really don't have much left to say...except that it was the grand finale to finish off our marching season! On Saturday, November 18th, Arcadia held it's 53rd annual Festival of Bands. This year as a sophmore, the Arcadia "experience" was very different than last year. For starters, parade band! 5:00 AM. That's when I woke up to meet the 7:00 call time for all parade band students. First I took a shower and dressed in my white band shirt. I put all of my black clothes into my backpack, not forgetting the all important gloves. By 6:40, I rushed out the door with my secret pal bag, clarinet, water bottle, and watch in one hand and my extra duffle bag in the other, all with my backpack around my shoulder and recharged camera slung around my neck. Once at the school, everyone lined up for role call and dismissal, the flute section getting priority for being section of the week. After loading the buses, all on board participated in activities such as, but not limited to: listening to music, sleeping, daydreaming (about proper roll-step technique), talking, going through the field show, playing cards, eating secret pal snacks, reading section leader letters, testing how much noise could be made before the leadership had to take control, etc. Two and a half hours later, we arrived...
To make a long story short, the buses parked, everyone unloaded, recieved their uniforms from the trailor, dressed, were checked by the chaparones, warmed up, and set up in the parade block. After our typical warmups, we ran through the march and headed to the end of the parking lot to begin the long walk to the parade street. All I can remember is being extremely hot, excited, tired, and nervous all while sucking my reed like candy. Along the way, we stopped to practice various strains of the parade march. Finally, we had one short practice run, followed by a run for the competition judges, and a second run for the rose parade judges. It went by so quickly that I can hardly remember even performing that morning! Still, I had a great time just being able to play music.
Alternatively, non-parade members met at the school at 11:30 AM to load buses and would catch up with us later that evening. So for all of you who were not there, below are all of the scores and pictures from the event! Our evening activities are featured on page 2. Enjoy!
Hi-light text to reveal!
Thank You Matt!
So sadly, this is the end of Matt's section. Following are more pictures that I took after getting my camera back from Matt...
